Are Rom-coms back?

I recently watched The People We Meet on Vacation on Netflix.

This movie actually made me believe in love again. It’s been a while since I’ve watched a movie that actually depicted love in a very real way.

The basic theme of this movie is that sometimes in life, we meet the right person at the wrong time.

This is something many people can relate to. I’m sure countless people in the world have met someone who would’ve made a great husband or wife, but the timing wasn’t right.

At our core, we all want to be loved. Love is a powerful emotion and transcends everything else in life. I think Rom-coms get a bad rep.

Rom-coms are usually blamed for portraying romance in a very unrealistic way, but I don’t believe that's true.

Rom Coms, which is short for Romantic Comedy, usually involve some sort of conflict that separates the two people who are in love. Throughout the movie, they find some way to reconnect and rekindle their romance.

This is very realistic. Romantic relationships are filled with highs and lows. Every moment with our spouses won’t be perfect.

Romantic comedies do portray imperfections. Let’s take, for example, the movie, How to Lose A Guy in Ten Days.

The movie is about two people who fall in love despite beginning the relationship with ulterior motives. All romantic comedies involve some form of conflict that is later resolved throughout the film.

Every rom-com that I have ever seen involves some form of breakup. Breakups are a normal part of life. If you’ve lived long enough, you’ve gone through a breakup.

Dating can be messy, especially when you’re young. It’s hard to know yourself, and it’s even harder to understand someone else while you’re still getting to know yourself.

Love isn’t always perfect. Romance isn’t always perfect. Dating isn’t always perfect. Nothing in life is perfect, but love is always worth it.

Rom-coms are about giving you the permission to dream again, to fantasize about the life you really want. No one wants to settle for a relationship where they aren’t truly happy.

Love tends to happen when we least expect it, when we aren’t looking.

Life is full of surprises, and at times it can feel like a roller coaster but just know that if you are going through a breakup, it's a completely normal part of life.

Divorces happen. Separations happen. Sometimes you need to take time apart from the one you love the most to grow as an individual, and it’s all a part of life’s beautiful rhythm.

I know it can be hard to see breakups as a normal part of life, but they definitely are. Breakups can provide so much room for growth. Sometimes you need to grow separately before you can grow together.

Life is all about love. Without love, we would be so empty inside. However, love also needs commitment; it needs discipline and patience, and those are skills that take time to develop.

Another rom-com to dive into is The Wrong Paris.

In The Wrong Paris, Dawn, who is one of the main characters, enters a dating show competition to win money for art school in Paris.

Once she discovers that the show is actually being filmed in Paris, Texas instead of Paris, France, she does everything to sabotage her chance of winning the competition, only to discover that she’s in love with the bachelor of the show.

Every rom-com that I’ve ever seen involves some form of conflict. I don’t think rom-coms unrealistically portray love at all.

I think relationships can be filled with conflict, and life isn’t always glamorous, and neither is love.

We don’t have to be perfect to be worthy of love. We just have to be open to receive love. Being in love with another human being can be one of the most rewarding feelings.

Love can be an empowering and beautiful experience. We just have to be ready to receive love.

Let love lead the way but love yourself first.
